Crown MD, Nicky Havelaar, was recently asked by M&IT magazine to comment on the gender pay gap following David Cameron's call for pay transparency.
Nicky Havelaar, MD at Crown, said: “Cameron’s call for pay transparency speaks more generally to larger corporations. In my experience, the events industry has been good at remunerating staff based on merit and achievement, rewarding individuals on results and effort, regardless of gender.
“On a broader level, confidence is an issue as women can appear to be less confident than their male-counterparts. External factors influence mindsets, but perceptions are changing and this is all part and parcel of the bigger gender diversity debate. Legislation helps to bring awareness to the issue and be an impetus to build confidence. Any discrepancies in pay should be down to role, contribution and talent, not gender.”
