Crown has worked with Sony for the fourth consecutive year to produce the Sony exhibition space and campaign at the World Photography Awards at Somerset House.

Our job was to highlight Sony’s involvement and prominent place in world photography as well as its latest products; notably the range of latest digital cameras , allowing the capture of world class photographs and the new Bravia 4K high definition TVs, providing the perfect 3D viewing experience.

The event ran from April 26 to May 12 and received great acclaim, with 2000 visitors on the opening Saturday.  In total, over 23,000 people visited the exhibition over the two-week period.

The aim was to support the objectives of the World Photography Awards while promoting photography, the Sony brand and Sony’s photography.  In 2013, Sony sponsored the Digital Imaging and 3D category, and we were asked to highlight their strength in this field.

Sony is a perfect fit for the Digital Imaging and 3D category.  On-site at Somerset House, we drove this association by designing and producing the ‘look and feel’ of the dedicated Sony exhibition space.

We showcased its new products, including the 4K TV, within the narrative of the award that Sony was sponsoring.  We highlighted that digital technology and great imaging go hand-in-hand, by displaying the national award winners’ work on a specially appointed 4K TV at the exhibition and at the Awards Ceremony, held at the Hilton Park Lane.

Sony Photographer Ambassadors led two-hour-long workshops over three days of the opening weekend.  The workshops were aimed at photographers with varied expertise: new photographers, photographers trying to break into the professional world and photographers on the look-out for the newest and latest technologies.  Sony cameras were readily available at all times, but it was key to the central ambition of the awards that participants could use any camera of their choosing.

We supported Sony UK in hosting these workshops and aided the speakers in developing their content to ensure that there was something for every level of photographer.

We managed the visit of 150 global press representatives and VIPs in country groups, including: Asia Pacific, Benelux, Central and South America, Russia, France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, South East Asia, Nordics, UK, Taiwan and Turkey.

We hosted them throughout their three-day agenda, which featured opportunities to network at: morning teas, curator-guided tours of the exhibition and winners’ lunches with Sony Corporation representatives and 2013 Awards Winners (outlined in a personalised, on-brand Welcome Pack for each delegate on arrival); accommodation; restaurant reservations; a hospitality programme; transport and airport transfers.
